A Sammy Rue Story

If you hadn't noticed already, I really adore my puppy. I think she's just about the cutest thing anyone ever did see. In fact, as I type she is jumping up on my legs and walking over the keyboard with her tennis ball in her mouth trying to get me to play with her.

Lest you think I am a neglectful mother, let me give a caveat to the story I'm about to tell.

I had just gotten back from work and took the fiery little thing for a mile walk - she hadn't been home alone long at all because I went into work early and was out at noon. Anyway, along with the walk I threw the tennis ball around with her for about 15 minutes and I thought she was tired... I was wrong.

When we got back to the house she kept harrassing me (as she is still doing). It's hilarious to watch her carry around her tennis ball and jump over everthing trying to get you to play with her.

Eventually she gave up on me and went to the stairs. She walks up the stairs with her tennis ball, drops it at the top, and nudges it until it rolls all the way down the stairs - then she chases it down and repeats the whole thing. I was in the bedroom but heard her making a ruckus and came out to watch her. It was one of the cutest, smartest, most entertaining things I've ever seen a dog do. Haha.

Anyway, I thought you might enjoy that little puppy tale ;) I think she's finally gotten all of her energy out and is ready for a nap. Phew! :)

My 'Skinny Girl Rules'

Hey Guys! So today I was thinking, "What is it that makes a healthy lifestyle? And what do I do that I can share with my readers?" Here are the things I came up with. I genuinely think incorporating these kinds of habits into your life will improve your mental and physical state. I hope you can try these things out and that they help you on your path towards finding and maintaining the best possible you :) So...

1. Drink a cup of water every hour
{If you can't do that then make sure
 you drink a glass before every meal.
If you aren't drinking enough then you will be
hungrier throughout the day
- so drink up!}

2. One day each week go vegetarian
      {Meat is high in fat and cholesterol
but also in protein.
Protein is something you need to
keep your energy level up}

3. Eat a real breakfast
      {So many people think that its okay to skip breakfast
 and that it may actually help you lose weight...
 WRONG!
Eating a good breakfast will kick start your metabolism
 and get your brain in gear for the day.
 Skipping breakfast also makes you much more prone to craving something you really shouldn't be eating, i.e. sweets}

4. Eat at HOME!
{Not only does eating at home save you money,
it reduces the amounts of trans fat and salt you eat,
it promotes a more balanced meal than you would get in a drive through, and it helps your mental state.
Sitting down to a meal you just cooked can be refreshing
and gives your brain some time to catch up with your day.
Set a goal to eat at least 10 meals
a week at home}

5. Eat your fruits and veggies
{When you sit down to eat your plate should be
half veggies,
and the other half split between protein and carbs.
Make a delicious salad or steam some vegetables!
Eat an apple or pack a bag of strawberries
for a snack during the day}

6. Don't drink your calories
{This includes your gatorade,
if you didn't work out for more than 60 minutes
 you are putting back into your body
 everything you just worked out. Gatorade is GREAT for endurance events, or workouts that were vigorous and you lost a lot of fluid from, but NOT great if you did a 30 minute run.
Drink some water and eat some fruit or nuts instead}

7. Have a splurge day
{You can eat everything you want
- just not at the same time.
Figure out what you want most and have that,
save your other cravings for next week}

8. Real hunger vs. Fake Hunger
{Make sure you aren't eating out of emotion.
I know one of the biggest problems for me is
when I'm working on a project I like
munching on something.
NOT GOOD.
So figure out the difference between real hunger,
and fake (or emotional) hunger}

9. Go to bed
{not to be all sciency BUT,
when you get 8 hours of sleep your body
produces a hormone called leptin
this hormone is what regulates your appetite.
It makes you feel full and satisfied after every meal.
So instead of watching that extra episode of Grey's Anatomy ;)
turn it off and give your body what it needs...
sleep}

9. It's not about the number
{We all stress about what that number is on the scale.
Don't.
Focus more on how you feel,
your view of yourself and your attitude towards your body}

10. Be active
{An active lifestyle equals a healthy one.
You don't have to go to the gym every single day,
you don't have to kill yourself running 10 miles.
All you need to do is get up and move!
- Take a long walk on the weekend
- Walk to the grocery store and carry your items home
Find what works for you to get you up and
remember:
You're lapping everyone still sitting on the couch.

Mozzarella Heaven

This dish is the most delightful, delicious, delectable food you might possibly ever eat. My amazing chef of a man made these for me the other day and I just died. They are super easy and great for you!

All you need is:
A pinch or two of salt
Balsamic Vinegar
Olive Oil
Fresh Basil Leaves
1 Tomato
1 Fresh Mozzarella Ball

Slice your tomato and mozza ball, and place a basil leaf in between each slice. Then pour about 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the medley, and then about the same of balsamic vinegar. (I actually put a little more balsamic on later because I love the taste of it so much). And then sprinkle with a little salt!

Sooo simple. Yet sooo delicious.

Give it a try and let me know how you liked it!

ps. We got the three pack of fresh mozzarella from whole foods (in the cheese area they have) - it's only $6 and you get three! It's a pretty great deal if you ask me. We also made personal pan pizza's the next day with the mozzarella and let me tell you, it was ah-mazing.

Neon Obsessions

I can't help myself. I am completely infatuated with everything neon. Neon as an accent color is so perfect, it can brighten up drab everyday colors and give it that shot of life that we all need.

So here are some looks and pieces that I think are absolutely to die for.

DIY Bracelets!

Recently I have started trying to get back into the craftier things in life. I have always loved creating things and there is always such a sense of pride when you finish a do it yourself project. Right now my obsession is handmade bracelets! I've been looking for some inspiration and here is what I've found :)

 I love this criss cross bracelet from I Spy DIY! {She has so many great crafts, you should really check it out} :)

 This Chevron design is something just like I used to make in middle school!  And after reading  Honestly...WTF's tutorial it all came back to me, haha. Thanks for the great pictures and awesome tutorial! For the full tutorial you can go here :)

This last one requires a couple extra items but isn't it great? It incorporates some chic with the chevron look. I love it. :) {I couldn't figure out who's picture this was originally so if I have not credited you I am so sorry, please let me know and I will fix it!}

Once I get all my supplies (and find a little bit of time!) I'll show you my finished bracelets! I can't wait to do it! Hope you find some inspiration in these pictures and get out there and make yourself some bracelets! ^_^

{It's Family Time}

Welcome to my family! These are my sisters....

The two oldest (me and Ellie) are the drama queens of the family. Although I try desperately to overcome this. ;)

All the kids! As you can see, there's a rather large age gap between us all. Half the time I feel like I'm their mom instead of sister. Haha. Love them to death though.

We were having a blast trying to get this shot =)

With mom and dad... It's pretty funny trying to get eight people to jump at the same time!

My boys.

Flash mob on the beach - to "Thriller!"

My turn for a couple pictures :)

Hope you enjoyed meeting my family!
